Cannes, creative friendly destination

Cannes, the new global benchmark for creative tourism, joined the Creative Tourism Network® in 2023 and was awarded the “Creative Friendly Destination” label.

Cannes thus joins 27 other destinations in 18 countries that have been awarded the label, as part of a sustainable tourism approach that promotes cultural heritage and local know-how to attract travellers in search of meaning.

Creative tourism, a human and immersive approach to travel

Creative tourism is an innovative form of travel that places experience, participation and encounters at the heart of the discovery of a destination. It invites visitors to become actively involved in cultural, artistic or craft experiences, learning, sharing and co-creating with local people through local know-how: cuisine, arts, music, traditional crafts or cultural practices. This approach encourages authentic encounters, enhances the value of intangible heritage and contributes to the personal enrichment of travellers, while supporting more sustainable tourism development that respects the local environment.

The Creative Tourism Network® is the world’s leading organisation dedicated to promoting and structuring creative tourism. Founded in Barcelona in 2010, this international network connects destinations, professionals, cultural institutions and local communities, offering training, certification and collaboration to develop high-quality offerings.

In Cannes, creative tourism showcases local talent and the destination’s intangible heritage, offering visitors an alternative way of discovering the city that is more human, participatory and deeply rooted in Cannes’ identity.

Caroline Couret, a pioneer of creative tourism with the Creative Tourism Network®.

Founder of the Creative Tourism Network®,Caroline Couret is an international benchmark for creative tourism. She works for a more human, more local and more experiential form of tourism, in which the visitor becomes an active participant in his or her own discovery. Through the Creative Tourism Network®, she encourages destinations to make the most of their culture, talents and know-how. The aim is to offer authentic, creative and memorable experiences.

By joining this network, Cannes is asserting its desire to offer innovative, lively tourism geared towards exchange. It’s an approach that invites visitors to discover the city in a different way, as close as possible to its identity and creative energy.
