the Belle Epoque and the 7th Art

Representative of the “Belle Epoque” and classified as a historical monument, it is easily recognisable thanks to its two domes inspired by the chest of the beautiful Otero.

On 30 January 1911, Henri Ruhl welcomed his first guests to inaugurate his new hotel, which he chose to call the Carlton Hotel. A name originating from Scandinavia that is synonymous with dream and elegance!

Over the years, the hotel will go down in history thanks to the prestigious receptions it will host. First the League of Nations Conference in January 1922 and then the G20 Summit in 2011.

In 1939, it became a film-loving hotel and the privileged residence of the personalities of the Cannes Film Festival, from the presidents of the jury to the biggest names in cinema and the famous journalists. The hotel’s appearance during key scenes in Hitchcock’s film, “The Hand in the Snare”, will further insert it into this milieu and Grace Kelly will forever be linked to the Carlton.
