Sainte-Marguerite

An excursion in the middle of nature

A small jewel off the coast of the Bay of Cannes, Sainte-Marguerite Island arouses curiosity. What does this piece of land surrounded by water hold? Preserved nature, exceptional historical vestiges, legends that are still alive… Let’s go for a day’s walk on Sainte-Marguerite Island.

A meeting full of promise

The crossing, looking towards the horizon

From the Old Port, you board a shuttle, heading for that little piece of land you can see in the distance. On this short crossing, you can admire the beauty of the coast and you can already see the relief of the island and its luxuriant vegetation.

A postcard setting

As soon as you set foot on the ground, you are amazed by the charms of Sainte-Marguerite Island. Here, no cars, calm and contemplation are king. Seduced by this restful atmosphere, you listen to the birdsong and the lapping of the water on the shore. Serenity and well-being are the order of the day! Let’s go for a little tour of the island with the magnificent seaside in sight.

Awakening the senses

As you walk along

Many paths to explore the island

From the landing stage, there are many possibilities to discover the treasures of Sainte-Marguerite. To stay on the seaside, you can take the ring road that goes around the island. Turning left, we pass some fishermen’s houses before arriving at the Musée du Masque de Fer et du Fort Royal, an impressive building.

The scent of nature

Leaving the Chemin de Ceinture for the Allée des Eucalyptus, we discover another particularity of the island of Sainte-Marguerite: its plant scents that make us travel. With your nose in the air, you can smell the sweet scents of Aleppo pines and eucalyptus. In the shade of these trees, through the vegetation, a change of scenery is guaranteed.

Underwater pleasures and treasures

At the end of the Allée des Eucalyptus, the sea is back! It’s time to enjoy a well-deserved picnic break in the calanques. In the sunshine, with this magnificent view of the shoreline and the island of Saint-Honorat in the background, you feel particularly lucky to be here.

Waters full of surprises

A unique underwater adventure

With such a setting, it is unthinkable not to take a dive. Equipped with our masks and snorkels, we discover a new aquatic world: that of the Underwater Ecomuseum.

The challenge of the day: find all the giant faces that have been scattered in the water.

The amazing Batéguier Pond

Barely recovered from our underwater explorations, we continue our discovery through the Allée du Centre, to the Batéguier pond. We didn’t expect to find this new bubble of nature on the island. With our binoculars, it is a privileged place to observe migratory birds. Common terns, gulls, herons of all kinds, stilts, nightingales… This ornithological reserve is a real bird paradise! To make matters worse, the view of the Esterel Massif is splendid.

The island of Sainte-Marguerite is full of treasures for which we already plan to return. When it’s time to take the shuttle back to Cannes, the show is still magical. The sky is tinged with shimmering colours and the sun is preparing to take its leave. We leave this bubble of nature, our heads full of memories and sensations, like an enchanted parenthesis.
