The Forville market

The soul of Cannes

A visit to Cannes must include the Forville market, a true gourmet journey with a southern accent. In the heart of Cannes, it opens its doors every morning. A source of inspiration and supply for star chefs, it offers a wide variety of fresh produce. Its unique architecture also makes it an ideal photo spot.

The Forville market is also a whole district animated by its food shops, small boutiques, terraces and restaurants. It’s a good bet that once you’re there, you’ll want to fill your basket. We give you our best suggestions for your aperitifs, picnics and family dinners.

The Forville market,

the belly of Cannes !

Located in the heart of Cannes

At the foot of the old town of Le Suquet, just a stone’s throw from the Old Port of Cannes, beats the heart of Cannes, or rather the belly of Cannes with its unmissable market: the Forville Market.

It is a delight for locals and visitors alike and even inspires the great chefs of the starred tables.

Market days

Tuesday to Sunday from 7am to 1pm

Mondays: a place for flea markets

Local produce and flowers

The 3,000 square metres of this large hall are shared by stalls of fresh produce, fruit and vegetables, local produce, local specialities, Mediterranean fishing, ready-made meals of the day…

If you wish to taste the products grown in the Cannes area, go to the central alleyway where the local market gardeners and producers are present. Don’t hesitate to ask them for their recipe for chard pie or the best variety of courgette for a ratatouille, they will be delighted to share their secrets with you.

And finally, don’t leave without a pretty bouquet of flowers, which you can choose from at the west gate of the market.

Forville,

an authentic and lively neighbourhood

Coming to the market in Forville also means taking advantage of the liveliness of an entire neighbourhood, punctuated by the life of the market, its shops and its inhabitants.

Before arriving at the market

In the early hours of the morning, it is by walking along rue Meynadier that you can get a feel for the authentic atmosphere of the district. Formerly rue Grande, some of the food shops, caterers, cheese makers, fishmongers and butchers already open their doors to you.

After this warm-up, the first market stalls are waiting for you. But before going to fill your basket, you can enjoy a coffee on the terrace and a nice warm croissant.

Around the market

Once your basket is full and you’ve earned a refreshing glass of rosé, there’s no shortage of terraces! And why not take the time to have a lunch concocted from market produce, while enjoying the atmosphere of the place, often punctuated by small concerts by local musicians.

Restaurants and gourmet counters warmly welcome you with their slates and daily menus.

Your shopping list

at the Forville market

For a Provencal aperitif

A few slices of socca, an absolutely addictive chickpea cake! Black olives, violet artichokes with anchovy paste, dried tomatoes and lupins. And if the aperitif is a dinner party, add some stuffed vegetables and courgette flower fritters. A treat is guaranteed!

For an original picnic

Italian charcuterie, fougasse, a bit of pissaladière or chard pie from the Cannes basin, in a savoury version or a sweet version with pine nuts. A tomato salad with olive oil from Provence and some vine peaches for dessert to finish on a fresh note!

For a dinner with friends

A salad of warm goat cheese with honey from the Alps, followed by a barbecue of Mediterranean fish caught in the bay of Cannes, seasoned with olive oil and Provencal herbs, accompanied by grilled peppers and aubergines. A tart with lemons picked in the region to finish and a zest of Lerina, a liqueur produced on the island of Saint Honorat.

The Forville market,

an Instagrammable spot

If you’re just passing through, it’s well worth the diversions for its unique architecture, colourful stalls, picturesque characters… enough to make your photos a success.

Photographers advise:

slpcannes: “At noon because the sunlight and the shadows go well together.”
Gilles Traverso: “In the morning, very early for the arrival of the fishermen who set up their shoal.”
monsport06: “In the early morning: for the view with the market and the Suquet behind, from the rue Louis Blanc”

Soon,

a tasting room on the roof

of the Forville market

Created in 1884, the market has undergone several transformations and renovations. But the most spectacular is yet to come with the opening of the roof to the public.

After having been used as a car park and then finally closed for more than 20 years, this space offering a breathtaking view of the old town of The Suquet will become one of the new must-see spots in Cannes.

An aromatic garden

This new 2,900 m2 space will house a garden with the scent of Provence, with thyme, laurel and other typical aromatic plants that smell of the south.

A tasting room

What better way to whet your appetite than with a little tasting? A space will be provided for this purpose with a plancha that will make your taste buds quiver with anticipation.

So… see you in 2023!
