She is known as "the Yoruba-ibo girl", an allusion to her bi-tribal origins. Yemi Eberechi Alade, born in 1989, is a Nigerian afro-pop singer and actress.
Like many Nigerian artists, Yemi Alade was hooked on singing and dancing as a teenager, starting to sing in a church choir at the age of 12.

Supported by her family and friends, she devoted herself to music in 2005 under the tutelage of Bayo Omisore. Her rise to fame really took off in 2009 after she won the Peak Talent Reality Show.

The professional music career of 'Mama Johny' (one of her nicknames) took off after she signed a deal with Effyzzie Music Group in 2012. Her first single "Fimisile" was quickly streamed on video platforms. Her track Johnny, launched in March 2014, was a huge success. She is the first Afro-pop star to exceed 100 million views on Youtube. Her career was truly launched.

After performing live alongside the heavyweights of Nigerian music (Dipp, Ice Prince, Eldee, MI, Sauce Kid, Shank, Sir Shina Peters, Waje, Wizkid and Yemi Sax), Yemi Alade is now taking centre stage on her own.
In 2019, as well as appearing on Beyonce's single Don't Jealous Me, she is releasing her fourth studio album Woman of Steel, featuring collaborations with artists such as Rick Ross, Angélique Kidjo and Funke Akindele.
Her new album is due for release in January 2024.
