  • In intimate resonance with the sounds, the energy of the bodies composes a score where movement and music become one. A new sensory and choreographic exploration.

Looking at music and listening to dance: this is the purpose of this audacious piece selected in 2020 for the Danse Élargie competition, organised in partnership with the Fondation Hermès by the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris. Around the key notion of composition, Wendy Cornu makes the musical score the primary support for her choreography. Schubert, Bach, but also the trumpet of jazzman Ibrahim Maalouf, the electro of Son.Sine or the hypnotic vocal loops of Julianna Barwick, thus become the matrix and structure of the eight dancers' gestural volutes. In addition to the musical proposals, the dancers also receive vocal indications of direction in the space to which, according to a game of chance evoking the work of Merce Cunningham, they choose whether or not to respond. Like a tableau vivant or a work in progress, Volutes thus offers a construction as complex as it is infinitely natural, in which the bodies are the instruments. Each of these "snapshots" reconfigures the stage as it goes along, blowing a spiral of sensations and a wind of freedom that sweeps the audience along. In balance, this singular musical and choreographic object succeeds in marrying synchronicity and listening, collective actions and individual escapes. Unusual and captivating.
