    ALEXANDRE BORODIN
Polovtsian Dances - From the opera Prince Igor
Opera completed by Alexander Glazunov and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov (1869-1890)

After having recorded together Dvořák's Cello Concerto, released in November 2021, Nadège Rochat and Benjamin Levy meet again in this piece with melancholic accents typical of the composer's native Bohemia. Borodin, for his part, was inspired by ancient Russia when he conceived his opera Prince Igor, which the composer left unfinished at his death. Rimsky-Korsakov, a friend of Borodin's, orchestrated the Polovtsian Dances, a piece of music that is as bewitching as it is ferocious.

The same Rimsky-Korsakov exclaimed "What inexpressible beauty, what ardent passion! It is one of the most beautiful themes in all Russian music' about Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet. Of all the musical adaptations of Shakespeare's drama, Tchaikovsky's is one of the most endearing.
