Trained by the greatest, such as Alberto Lorca or Marienma, Antonio Najarro danced on the most prestigious international stages before establishing himself as an iconic choreographer of current Spanish dance. Renowned for his 'mixed' flamenco, he directed the Spanish National Ballet from 2011 to 2019 (created by Antonio Gades) and has received numerous awards throughout his career. In Querencia, the company's sixteen dancers perform a true panorama of Spanish dance, in a succession of sixteen tableaux, each of which bears the choreographer's signature: he revisits all styles, from bolero to traditional dance or flamenco, offering a dance of acute technicality that fascinates as much by its classicism and its historical sense as it sparkles with modernity. In Spanish, la Querencia evokes a return to the roots. And this is indeed the profound framework of Antonio Najarro's complex work: both in the gestures and expressiveness of the dance itself, and in the original musical score for symphonic ensemble by pianist Moisés Sánchez, which echoes the works of the greatest Spanish composers such as Granados and Albéniz, or through the costumes by Yaiza Pinillos, between tradition and the avant-garde. With Querencia, Antonio Najarro demonstrates once again that, in addition to excelling in highlighting all the codes and riches of the Spanish dance tradition, he never ceases to give it a contemporary resonance and to expand its repertoire.
