    His Don Juan...
A former dancer with the Nederlands Dans Theater, then artistic director of the Cullberg Ballet, Johan Inger has choreographed for the greatest European companies and signed a number of successful pieces, including his Petrouchka for the Ballets de Monte-Carlo and his remarkable interpretation of Carmen for the Compañia Nacional de Danza. Johan Inger has created a new work with the dancers of the Fondazione nazionale della Danza - Aterballetto - a company from Emilia-Romagna.

His Don Juan shows great narrative fidelity to the original work, while visually asserting itself as a ballet marked by a profusion of styles in which the neoclassical aesthetic sparkles with contemporary touches and folklore. Bathed in chiaroscuro lighting, the sixteen male and female dancers distil an intensely expressive body language that gives flesh to the characters and strength to the story's muted drama. Through a succession of pas de deux with crescendo sensuality and bewitching group scenes, this whirling ballet reveals a psychoanalytical framework where Don Juan, a seducer with pantagruelian appetites, reveals himself as a man who is the victim of an unfulfilled sentimental quest, tattooed in the heart by the abandonment of a mother. In the light of this original trauma, the mythical seducer is reminiscent of Sysiphe, forever condemned to live and inflict the same torments.

A narrative ballet with timeless sound and visual aesthetics, between past and present, where we find all the intuitive and powerfully emotional legibility of Johan Inger's creations: here, the bodies clearly speak of this sensual frenzy fuelled by a vain desire to be in the middle of the world. frenzy fuelled by a vain pursuit of absolute love.
