Arlucs Symphonic - English Odyssey

Born on St Cecilia's Day, the patron saint of musicians, Britten grew up in a music-loving family. Many musicians who travelled to his region stayed with them, and the young Britten took up composition at an early age. He was only 20 years old when he conceived his Simple Symphony, written in the style of Haydn.

Vaughan Williams was 70 when he began writing his Fifth Symphony, a work in which the aura of his former teacher Maurice Ravel hovers. Although the world was at war when the English composer was working on this symphony, nothing of the sort appears in this work, where a feeling of serenity prevails.

Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto No. 2 has stood the test of time thanks to the haunting melody of the solo instrument and the perfect balance between classicism and originality. A vaporous page with a fairy-tale touch, characteristic of Mendelssohn.
